Ports Of Auckland
On Tuesday 21st March, room 4 went on the Ports Of Auckland trip at the Auckland Waterfront, we learnt all about the Ports Of Auckland and how they operate. I already knew that The Ports of Auckland are used for importing and exporting food and other items of use into/out of New Zealand.
The goods that are imported/exported into/out of Auckland are all stored in big steel containers that are loaded onto container ships that are sent to other countries.
So I knew why the ports of Auckland is there and what it is used for, but during the trip I learnt how it operates. These are some questions that my teacher set for me after the trip.
- What is a Maritime Museum?
A Maritime Museum is is a museum that has exhibition's and displays on ships and travel on large amounts of water.
- What is a Gantry Crane?
A gantry crane is a type of overhead crane that is stationary so the things it has to lift have to be taken to it.
- What is a Plimsoll and what is it for?
The Plimsoll line is a mark on a ship's hull that says the maximum depth that the vessel can safely be immersed when loading cargo.
- What are Straddles Carries for?
Hey Rosie cool idea to have questions and you put lots of detail in your writing.
